Are you attending the 2018 International TESOL Convention in Chicago? Join us for a variety of exciting activities throughout the week of March 27-30! The TESOL Convention is a unique opportunity to connect directly with program participants and alumni to learn about what it is like to serve as an English Language Fellow or Specialist.

You can learn more about opportunities to live and teach abroad with the English Language Fellow Program at one of our two info sessions:

Teach Abroad with the English Language Fellow Program

  • Wednesday, March 28 at 1pm in room E253c
  • Thursday, March 29 at 11:30am in room E261

Stop by booth #507 to chat with program staff and alumni, and snag program materials like brochures and notebooks. The exhibit hall is open from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm on Friday. Are you interested in teaching in a specific region of the world? Throughout the conference, we will hold regional hours dedicated to the six regions (Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, the Near East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Western Hemisphere) where program participants live and teach abroad. During these regional hours, you will have a chance to speak with alumni and representatives from the U.S. Department of State who work in these regions.

 Wednesday, March 28
 Region  Time
 East Asia & Pacific  10am-11am
 Africa  2pm-3pm
 Europe & Eurasia  3pm-4pm
 Thursday, March 29
 Region  Time
Near East and North Africa  11am-12pm
 South and Central Asia  1pm-2pm
Western Hemisphere & the Americas  3pm-4pm

During these presentations, we will provide you with an overview of the program, the eligibility requirements, and the application and review process. You will have the opportunity to hear from program alumni about their unique fellowship experiences and have your questions answered by staff from our Washington, D.C. office.

Don’t forget to connect with us on social media! Follow along with the festivities and join the conversation by tagging us @ELPrograms and using the #TESOL18 hashtag. We’ll be live-tweeting the event and posting photos on Facebook and Instagram, so we encourage you to join the fun virtually.

Program Alumni

The TESOL Convention is a great opportunity to reconnect with the English Language Programs community and your alumni peers. Stop by booth #507 in the Expo Hall to catch up with us and share what you have been up to since completing your last fellowship. Additionally, you are invited to join us for a Fellow Alumni Breakfast in the English Language Expo Hall at booth #507 on Friday, March 30, between 8:30 am and 10:30 am. There will be food, fun activities, and time for networking. This will be a great time to pick up your alumni swag bag filled with exclusive (and new!) alumni materials. We will be filming an alumni Facebook Live event at the breakfast at 9 am, and we encourage you to join in the fun.

Directly following the Fellow Alumni Breakfast, we will also be hosting an English Language Specialist Appreciation Hour at 10:15 am. If you have completed a Specialist project, join us at the booth for hors d’oeuvres, exclusive Specialist swag, and conversation with your colleagues.

If you are attending or presenting at the Convention, please fill out this Google form. We will keep you updated on our TESOL activities and share your presentation with our colleagues from the U.S. Department of State and the broader TESOL community. We love any opportunity to highlight the great work our alumni are contributing to the field.

See you in Chicago!
