Daniel Hirsch had a well-established TESOL career when he decided it was the right time in his career for a new challenge. After hearing about the the English Language Fellow Program from a colleague, Hirsch applied and he now sees it as one of the best decisions he’s ever made in a career that includes teaching K-8 ESL in New York City public schools for ten years, working with the Fukui City Board of Education in Japan for four years, and participating in Fulbright programs in Turkey and Finland.

Hirsch was selected for a fellowship in Mexico that he felt was a good match to his past experiences. He felt included, respected, and appreciated by his colleagues, and in turn he was able to deepen his understanding of a new culture and educational system. The fellowship offered Hirsch the chance to present at international TESOL conferences, publish articles, and work with some of the top professionals in the country. He especially appreciated that he was able to complete projects in a meaningful and sustainable way. Hirsch feels that any professional who wants to boost his or her self-confidence and benefit from unique professional opportunities should apply to the program: it will make a wonderful difference in any educator’s life.
