July 2020 Update

With the health and safety of our program participants as our top priority, the English Language Fellow Program has paused in-country exchanges for the remainder of 2020. In the coming months, as the global health situation continues to evolve, the Fellow program will consider restarting after January 1, 2021, at the earliest. The English Language Specialist Program is also paused for all in-country programming.

In an effort to meet the continued demand for high-quality English language instruction and teacher training, English Language Programs is providing opportunities for virtual engagement through online Fellow and Specialist projects developed by U.S. Embassies with local educational institutions. Applicants in the 2020-2021 Fellow pool may be considered for these projects, based on eligibility as outlined on this website. The English Language Specialist Program continues to accept applications for its virtual programming.

We thank each and every one of you for your commitment to the English Language Fellow and Specialist Programs, and we hope you and your families are safe and well.

March 2020 Update

COVID-19 UPDATE: The health and well-being of all English Language Fellows and Specialists is our highest priority. Given the rapidly evolving nature of the current situation, the U.S. Department of State has authorized a voluntary departure for all the English Language Fellows and Specialists worldwide.

At this time, we are pausing matching for the Academic Year 2020-2021 Fellow program and Specialist program in order to focus on responding to the current global health crisis.  We will advise as soon as we resume matching applicants to projects.

All current Fellows and Specialists overseas should follow the instructions of all local health authorities, their host institutions, and Regional English Language Office. All questions can be addressed to your local Regional English Language Officer, U.S. Embassy, or the English Language Programs team.

We thank each and every one of you for your commitment to the English Language Fellow and Specialist Programs, and we hope you and your families are safe and well.
