A writing center in Bangladesh

English Language Fellow Lisa Ponzetti traveled to Bangladesh to teach English, and while she was there, she helped develop and establish a writing center with the Centre for Languages at BRAC University in Dhaka.

The first of its kind in Bangladesh, the Writing Centre is a resource both for students of all departments and for faculty. Though located at the main campus building, the Writing Centre’s team of student mentors will also provide support to second-semester students who spend a residential semester away at the university’s Savar campus, which is located outside Dhaka.

The Writing Centre aims to help each student better understand the process of being a writer and to extend their skills and use of strategies at all stages of this process.

After its opening, students started coming from the very first week, and Ponzetti continued to work with the Head of the Writing Centre in the training and development of its student mentors.
