English Conversation Hour Hosted by English Language Fellow in Burkina Faso

In spring 2017, English Language Fellow Alexis Cherewka initiated an ongoing project entitled English Conversation Hour for students of the American Language Center (ALC) at the Université Aube Nouvelle and members of the outside community. Every week participants engage in informal hour-long sessions to strengthen conversation skills through games and activities that emphasize communication. The program is free to all participants.

This project was created in response to feedback from the students of Université Aube Nouvelle and members of the community who indicated that although they had been taught English in school they do not feel comfortable speaking freely in everyday conversation. The goal of the project is to create an inclusive atmosphere and a safe space for participants to practice English conversation skills and to generate a more cohesive English-speaking community.
