English Language Fellows Janet Long and Samar Aal joined Jessica Fox in her placement city of Ambon, Maluku on the weekend of April 4 for a number of successful events. During the morning session, Samar Aal shared about opportunities and experiences of studying abroad in the United States. Around 50 students and faculty from a variety of faculties joined this session and expressed interest in the four follow-up sessions offered in May by locally-based Jessica Fox on the following topics: specific scholarship opportunities, writing application essays, preparing for interviews, and creating CVs and resumes. The afternoon session featured a presentation by Janet Long, a writing expert with seven years of experience, on the topic of plagiarism and academic honesty. She highlighted the basic skills of quotes and paraphrasing. This session drew nearly 30 participants from the English Language Teacher Training department of the University of Pattimura in Ambon. The three visiting fellows made a final visit to the 20 current ACCESS students in the evening. Janet and Samar were put in the hot seat to answer questions about their lives’ passions, overcoming challenges, and achieving one’s dreams.
