Fellow Conducts Workshop on Technical and Academic Writing in Chandigarh, India

English Language Fellow Heather Mehrtens conducted a workshop on Technical and Academic Writing at the PEC University of Technology in Chandigarh, India. The topics covered were report writing, academic writing, formal letter writing, formal email writing, writing a statement of purpose, and paragraph writing. Sessions were held for both graduate and undergraduate students at the university.

Various lecturers from the Centre of Management and Humanities also observed sessions and learned about these writing methods in order to teach them to other groups of students. All activities used were practice oriented; they began with an overview of a specific writing type and were then further elaborated through tasks. Overall, participants very much enjoyed the sessions and came away with a much clearer understanding of how to write professionally.

Faculty commented that the workshop was very well organized and will help them to teach current and future students various types of technical and academic writing. They also stated that they would be happy to hold another series of workshops which would include other universities in the local community.
