English Language Fellow Alex Lowry presented a workshop on the subject of Music and Songs as a means of promoting intercultural exchange at the 2013 Kiev Regional Conference in Ukraine.
The workshop was attended by 86 teachers. Lowry discussed how to find and assess song materials; various activities for both in-class and out-of-class assignments, and how to store, organize, and share song lesson data.
Lowry emphasized the importance of selecting songs with clear lyrics, in genres that were relevant and well-liked by the students, were “geographically grounded” in a particular region or society, and that tell a story.
