World Literacy Day in Belarus

Over a period of four days, English Language Fellow Clark Erwin-Billones traveled to secondary schools across the Minsk region in Belarus to give English lessons to teachers and students in honor of World Literacy Day. Erwin-Billones, along with Fulbright ETA Brinna Boettger visited schools in the regional towns of Dzerzhinsk, Sologorsk and Zhodina in Minsk.

During each of her teaching visits, Erwin-Billones had the opportunity to promote unique English language learning activities. After reading different pieces of literature with each class, Erwin gave a lesson on found poetry and helped students to develop their own poems. “I have never seen a lesson like this where students create their own poems from literature. Thank you for sharing it. I will do more activities like this one,” said one teacher in Zhordina.
